A rather unruly race noted for it's distinct lack of scruples.

Kivnois Genealogy and Biology:

The Kivnois species are most readily related to earth's amphibians.

Originating from an omnivorous mud and muck dwelling species, Kivnois developed much of their abilities as cumulative sideways adaptations to their environment.

The development of a secondary nervous system with contact on the outer layer of skin was an early development to allow the Kiv a better ability to detect incoming predators and threats. This development came alongside the growth of filaments along the Kivnois' spine, resembling thick semi-translucent hair, that could detect the rapid shift of pressure in the air.

These adaptations would eventually enable further growth in Kivnois power. Initially the early warning system became tied to certain fight or flight responses. These responses honed the Kiv's ability to physically launch themselves, but it was also a slow adaptation to incorporate the secondary nervous system with the ability to augment these responses. The exposed nerve endings adapted to create a more complex structure for quickly 'grabbing' atomic particles that it would come in contact with, enabling the Kiv to quickly shift the force of material around them.

This early ability was the precursor to Kivnois kinetics and a specialized survival mechanism. Enabling the Kiv to more readily slip from a predator's grasp or propel themselves into the air more rapidly than they could achieve via muscle reflex.

This enhanced survival skill gave Kivnois the means to grow. Following generations built upon these traits until they became a much more integral part of their functionality. What was once a means to survive had also become a means to hunt and thrive. They could use their kinetic nervous system to draw energy along themselves, using their contact surface to cling to and even partially paralyze their prey as they brought it down.

As the advantages of the Kivnois' secondary nervous system grew, the species became increasingly reliant on the kinetic powers it provided. The physical prowess of their body no longer a necessary feature to uphold meant that they gained a measure of frailty as priorities shifted. Their bodies no longer needed to carry much bulk or muscle mass. Claws and sharp appendages unnecessary where the brute force of kinetic powers could rend a foe.

The Kivnois developed into somewhat more bipedal forms naturally for similar reasons long term to sapiens. The increased blood flow and connection to the brain enabling a more intelligent creature to adapt.


Like any sentient species, a Kivnois personal psyche can be relatively far flung. There are certain common instinctual aspects that most Kivnois tend to share though. They have stronger tendency towards a flighty personality, their mind easily vaulting from one subject to something else entirely. They act inherently more childlike in the sense that they retain a very pliable sense of morality that is juxtaposed against their apparent lightheartedness over most things.

Due to the differences in Kivnois physiology and development, there are plenty of fundamental differences in their instinctual behaviors. They do not exhibit the same basic emotions as one might expect a human to in many circumstances.
Their response to anxiety for example results in a buildup of kinetic force in preparation to rapidly escape whatever is being perceived as a threat. This makes the Kivnois appear to be more 'bouncy' when they are concerned about something.
This behavior extends to most of their core personality traits. The 'fight or flight' response is similarly distinctive by focusing on the means they learned to survive. Notably they have a strong tendency to skip to the polar ends of their abilities. Be it vaulting rapidly with their powers, releasing an undirected burst of kinetic force outward, or trying to rapidly leech the energy of the greatest force presently threatening them.
Because of these changes, the Kivnois adrenaline and endorphin response is tied rather strongly to the response aspect of their secondary nervous system. Keeping a constant level of activity with bursts of greater action can keep a Kivnois relatively content in much the same way someone who is regularly athletic can experience an elevated mood.

This makes staying regularly active important, as interrupting the use of their powers and inhibiting them can directly influence the Kivnois' mental state as well as performance with their kinetics. Consequently, Kivnois commonly utilize a 'tempo' by which they orchestrate and focus on their abilities, in order to both regulate the use of their power as well as retain a healthier mental state.


Kivnois presently resemble sapiens in many ways. They are a bipedal humanoid with hairlike filaments and similarly structured limbs.

The key differences come in the minute details. Kivnois skin is naturally thinner and smoother than a human giving a semi-translucent appearance similar to frosted glass. Their hair is likewise thicker and semi-translucent, being a living appendage of nerves. Kivnois limbs are proportionately longer than a human's would be as well.

These differences are generally not obvious enough at distance, and as such is not enough to cause one to immediately draw attention in a crowd. Upon closing the distance or observing the visual details such as refraction of light across their body they are readily identifiable.

Kivnois Kinetics works via energy being drawn into the body through the skin and pulled into their nervous system by the clusters of atoms (which are specifically ones that have more available electron bonds so as to interact with a maximum range of other matter) where it is redistributed to other parts of their body for storage or discharge (they can't store a lot of energy in themselves, it slows the system down to do so). It is the interplay between the absorption and discharge of energy that is controlled to influence the particles immediately surrounding a Kivnois and manifest the desired results.


Kivnois attire tends to be more about comfort and movement. Draping materials and a few key points of reinforced protection and/or padding tends to be the most common aspects of their clothing choices. The appearance ends up being something of armored robes and cloaks as they enjoy the theatrics of fabric billowing around them as much as they like the strategic purposes it can serve in confusing their opponents.

Living Conditions:

Kivnois live within a 'fleet'. Traditionally they have a habitable planet upon which they currently live, coupled with another one which has been mostly consumed. This habitable planet tends to posses a mixture of Kivnois architecture and mechanics combined with an eventually decaying aspect of it's original culture. Kivnois slowly take over old domiciles and eventually dismantle and replace them with new buildings of their own make.

Kivnois architecture tends to be relatively smooth designs. Shaped beams and rigging that gives a location a very sweeping appearance almost like a piece of fabric .

The makeup of a Kivnois fleet traditionally centers on it's habitable world. Surrounding this is the remnant field; a large sphere of free floating asteroids, debris, and often the last habitable world now abandoned within the field of the fleet to be strip mined. This material serves it's purpose as a crash barrier for incoming assault, natural and non, as well as material to fire outward.

Trailing behind this is the Kivnois home-world, the long dead husk of the Kivnois' original planet. Now a fragmented scape of rock and metal, woven together by a massive framework living just beneath it's shattered surface.


The Kivnois exist as a large enough society to experience many disparate cultures. Due to their situation there is stronger prevalence to operate almost as a single front during invasions, though the situational advantage of one faction in conflict will sometimes spur a rival faction to help foil the success of the initial invasion long enough to wrest power as the dominant group.

The current dominant political face is presently the Clan Lords. A more fundamentally driven faction that relies on direct physical superiority over strong political or strategic maneuvers. Having wrested control from the other factions night a hundred years ago, they have retained power by ironically by standing by a very chaotic policy of electing clan lords by competition.

The strongest of many factions have often been tempted to gamble their life on personal gain and power that can be claimed with the title of clan lord if only by defecting and challenging a lord. As such, the lords have worked for a long time to solidify their place behind strong displays of personal might alongside the formation of castes of 'champions, warriors elected to serve as guardian and stand-in for a lord, and in turn gain's reign over much of the military power.

Kivnois don't play well with the rest of the space faring population either. They have been thrown into battle against may species that acted on more righteous inclinations in hopes of beating back their onslaught. Other species have found it very difficult to police the Kivnois though as the Kivnois fleet is the mass movement of the an entire planet of people where many task forces are only a piece of the species military arm. Added to that the constant nomadic-like migration, with large periods that they are simply not heard from during travel between systems, leaving most to constantly be finding the wake of the fleet instead.

This lifestyle has brought on the nicknames of World Eaters as they might consume an entire system's valuable materials.


The Kivnois live and die by their kinetic abilities. Their ability to generate fields to control the state of matter around themselves is the mainstay of how they move, fight, defend, and even power their technology.

The abilities a Kivnois possesses is derived entirely from the adaptation of a redundant nervous system specialized to act as a circulatory system and circuit for energy. Internally, the secondary nervous system contains many nodes acting as translators, resistors, and coil-like components, all linking into the outer dermal layer.

Dermal Layer - This part of the Kiv nervous system is the most generally utilized one. It exists as a mesh of nerve endings that exisits in the outermost layer of a Kiv's skin. It is composed of a small array of molecules designed to possess many bonding elements, allowing it to catch, consume, and release elementary particles. It is by regulating these elements that the Kiv is able to produce most of their kinetic abilities.

Coils - These are essentially nodes that lets the Kivnois temporarily hold elementary particles within themselves. This allows the Kiv time to process the energy they are absorbing and utilize it elsewhere.

Resistors - These nodes are primarily protective elements within a Kivnois. As energy is absorbed into their body and the elementary particles are carried through the nervous system, the resistors serve to slow down and mitigate the amount that the Kivnois is processing. This aspect does not directly benefit or dictate the way a Kivnois power works, but is the main preventative measure that keeps them from short circuiting themselves.

Translators - This is the primary set of internal organs for the nervous system. This allows the Kivnois to process the elementary particles absorbed and apply them towards a different form of energy.

These core components act within the rest of the secondary nervous system to create an organic network which can absorb and influence the particles around itself, by taking, adding, and rearranging the elementary particles to cause a shift.

The kinetic powers Kivnois possess is based on the principles of physics. The main implication being that their powers operates in a causal fashion. They utilize a relatively fundamental level of influencing factors to produce the desired effects in their surroundings.

As consequence, much of their understanding of their own powers is derived from a relatively spiritual/ritualized level. Even if the Kiv understands their powers as having an organic or physical origin it is generally in the sense of what they 'feel' when they interact with matter, rather than a technical breakdown of what they are experiencing.


The Kivnois nervous system has a maximum working capacity it can operate at, and in order to prevent the Kvinois from burning themselves out, short circuiting, or getting overcharged, they habitually operate on a rhythm which helps the Kivnois to regulate the rate they use their powers.
When their rhythm breaks it has the potential to cause the Kivnois feedback, ranging from a temporary halt in their abilities up to the chance at damaging their secondary nervous system (permanently damaging their ability to use kinetics).

There is always a threat of feedback however. In direct proportion to the amount a Kivnois exerts, the potential for the energy to corrode the nerves it's traveling through increases. This translates to a Kivnois always having a potential of harming themselves through the use of their kinetics similar to that of an electric eel.


The fighting styles of the Kivnois center around their powers, utilizing a constant flow of motion accompanied by any form of weaponry that can easily be incorporated onto their person or carried with them. This frequently means the use of heavy weighted chain weapons they can easily wrap around themselves, weights, blades, or metal filaments woven into their hair, pierced into their skin, or otherwise carried as a traditional weapon. They rely largely on their ability to absorb and redirect incoming force from weapons and energy as their defense instead of using proper armor.

The Kivnois also apply what limited tech they have to create powerful artillery, using of their abilities to launch large masses of debris and other materials out for devastating effect.
